Overclock Settings: ASUS Striker Extreme + Intel Q6600 Quad Core
Hey everyone,
I just got my new rig put together.
ASUS Striker Extreme,
Intel Q6600,
CORSAIR 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400),
(2) BFG 8800 GT OC2s in SLi,
(2) WD Raptors in RAID 0,
Zalman AC on CPU and GPUs.
I've done some OC work on my older P5n32-SLi and Petium D 830 that I had before...but not to this degree of performance increase. I've read that this Q6600 should be pretty easy to up to 3-3.2GHz on air cooling.
I would like someone to check my specs if you could.
I will be looking at the following settings to overclock the CPU.
VCORE =1.3185V
2.125v <= VDIMM <= 2.175V
1.2V_HT = 1.30V
NB_Core + 1.35V
CPU_VTT = 1.35V
SB_Core = 1.50V
CPU = 340.00 to start.
I don't have much experience with adjusting the memory. The times are 5-5-5-12 out of the box, so that is what they are at now.
I know that this setup is pretty popular, so I'd like to hear people's thoughts and experiences with this setup and the OC work that they've done.
Please let me know.
Thanks,
inverted

Here is another the same rules apply for core and quad core.

Nice links...thanks

let me watch the football game tonight...NYG vs New Cheating England...and I'll post back (o:
LMAO Enjoy the game NJ giants lol they need a stadium in NY
Hi how did you make out with your overclock. I have a new q6600 on its way for a new build should be fun Phase change cooler -30C claimed we will see.
ASKER
"Phase change cooler" WOW! That should be something else.
To be honest...any work I've done on computers at home has been for friends and family (xmas laptops) since we last posted.
I'll try to get the settings configured as we discussed by Friday this week.
Thanks for checking up (o:

Okay...I got to it this evening.
I posted before:
VCORE =1.3185V
2.125v <= VDIMM <= 2.175V
1.2V_HT = 1.30V
NB_Core + 1.35V
CPU_VTT = 1.35V
SB_Core = 1.50V
CPU = 340.00 to start
^^^That didn't work^^^
had to clear the CMOS and try again.
2nd time...I enabled ASUS's auto AI overclocking to 20% and it gives me the configuration of
VCORE =1.31V
VDIMM = 1.87V
1.2V_HT = 1.25V
NB_Core + 1.33V
CPU_VTT = 1.36V
SB_Core = 1.50V
That will raise the clock to 2878 MHz or 2.88GHz
not too bad for auto configuration.
3rd thing I did was disable the auto AI Overclock and try myself with the same settings as AI auto configuration...except I added the:
CPU = 340.00
to the
VCORE =1.31V
VDIMM = 1.87V
1.2V_HT = 1.25V
NB_Core + 1.33V
CPU_VTT = 1.36V
SB_Core = 1.50V
And the puppy wouldn't boot. Had to remove the CMOS battery and wait 10 minutes...the Clear CMOS button didn't work. Now it's all back up and I'm ready to try again.
Am I doing too much by adding the CPU = 340.00 configuration change...should I leave that at auto and just make the voltage changes?

Sweet...I've got database madness today...but tonight I'll try again (o:
Just curious - when you say "the Clear CMOS button didn't work", are you moving the jumper to enable the CMOS clear capability per the Striker Extreme manual? I've had pretty good luck with using it.
Also, did you "downshift" to the 1303 Bios, or are you using the 1305 bios? I had read the thread on Xtreme about 3.8+ Ghz (watercooled) Q6600's. Several people in that thread mentioned OC problems with the 1305 bios. I re-flashed to 1303 and had much better results. I'm now running 3.2 stable (with a Zalman 9700).

Yes...when I moved the jumper (o;
I saw that rolling back like you stated to 1303 might help.
I'll try that this weekend too (o:

Sorry guys...I've been sooooooo busey at work with stuff that I really haven't even turned my new rig on that much...to play Bioshock (o: since I started this thread.
I'll go ahead and close it out take your guys advice on the settings when I can have some time to myself to work on it.
Thanks a lot fore everything and I'll start a new thread when I've got some more concreate information for everyone.

Here is one of the best threads on that board and others based on intel long read but everything you need is in there Enjoy http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?s=84caa019f530720fc902b10d0573513e&t=106321
