I made the mistake of wiping my hard drive clean and not having all of the tools to reinstall an OS. I have a Sony VAIO desktop computer (About 2.5 years old). It was running Windows XP Media Center and I wanted to have it run XP Pro. I used WipeDrive to erase the hard drive, which it did. Now I have a clean hard drive and no SATA driver for my motherboard and chipset. Here is the method I've tried:
Find the driver from Sony for the motherboard / chipset. This comes in an exe file. I have nLite OS so I can slipstream the .inf into the XP Pro once I get the INF file out of the EXE file. This way, when I am able to do this, the VAIO will have the driver right there available, and I should be able to find it when i hit F6 at the first start up, but I have been unable to get anything out of the EXE file that I need. Since I have screwed up my Sony VAIO, I am using my Toshiba Laptop to get drivers, files, etc. I try to install the .exe file I got from the Sony website and I cannot do this, as Sony limits the EXE file to only be installed on a VAIO machine (makes sense, is just frustrating). I figured that if I could get the exe file installed on my toshiba, that would give me access to the INF file I need to include into the repackaged XP Pro.
I need to figure out a way to unpack the EXE file I downloaded from Sony without having to install it. This way, I can get the INF file and use nLiteOS (
www.nliteos.com) to repack XP Pro and get on with the work I need to do on that computer. Please help!!!!
