What happens if your press F8 during machine startup? Can you get into safe mode with no problem? Maybe you can try a system restore from there.

Browse All TopicsHello,
I have an HP Pavillion Dv 1000 that shuts down after a few seconds after XP setup disk gets to the point where you can load a new OS or do a repair. I can let it boot to the BIOS and it will stay there forever without shutting down. I tried taking the hard drive out and the same thing happens completely shuts down after it setup gets to the point of doing a repair. Does this sound like the CPU or motherboard? I also swapped my memory and tried different slots and removed the wireless card, that did nothing either. Any direction would be great!
Thanks,
Compucharley

Hi compucharley,
Have you tried boot from Windows CD and run a repair, restore or a reinstall?
