Browse All TopicsI bought a HP NX7400, off of ebay, and recently discovered that it has an pirited copy of Vista ultimate on it. I get a messege saying it has the SL08-010 Activation Exploit on it. Well it has a COA For Windows XP Pro and I desided to just wipe the disk and reinstall and good legal copy of the XP. But it will not recongnize the hard drive, so just to troubleshot I tried to reinstall the Vista and it worked perfectly, however I still get the Exploit messege. It will be fine with me to reload XP but I believe the Exploit is keeping me from installing it. Do I need to flash the bios on the machine to remove it and if so could someone give me detailed instuctions on how to do it. Thanks

It's more likely you can't install XP because you don't have the SATA drivers for the installer to recognise your hard drive. Vista has them built in.
You don't need to touch the BIOS but you may need to slipstream these drivers onto your install disk or go into the BIUOS setup and see if there is an option to disable Native SATA
There an alternative method described here
What you need to do when xp starts you can load addtional drivers. You will need to get teh SATA drivers to that machine .
Here is a link to Hps site with someone doing the same thing as you.
http://forums11.itrc.hp.co
You can also slipstream drivers with n-lite (http://www.nliteos.com/),
Just one more question for clearification, I was able to change the SATA setting in setup to disabled and XP installed perfectly. Is it ok to leave the setup set that way and is it and why would it be benifiscal to creat and install the newly configured install disk if i plan to keep XP on it. Thanks

Well you got get a legit license for vista and go from there. The issue you may be having could be a driver issue at times some newer machiens no logner have xp drivers so they do not show up correctly. Is it a Sata drive ?
