Question

ASUS P5B Deluxe no video no beep codes

Asked by: fmarshall

This system has been up and running  for over a year.
I turned it off to go on a trip and when I returned it wouldn't boot the first time - but it did the next time.
Recently I went on a trip again and now it won't boot:
No beep codes.
Video monitor light goes green briefly then back to yellow.
Removed the RAM - still no beep codes.
Reset the CMOS - still no beep codes.
Have 2 sets of memory - one I've been using in this machine - one set is new and was purchased for this board specifically from Crucial.  Tried both.
Have 2 PCIE16 video cards - same result with either one.

I have the same motherboard and did go through a lot of problem with it recently.

My problem was a memory stick that died and made my system unstable.
Way to fix it is to run the memory test by pressing f8 untill you isolate the stick that is dead and remove a pair.

However in your case if I understand correctly the Bios dont even boot up.
Its usually because a component failure or miss connected one.

I would first check if the green light led on the mobo is on, its next to the sata connectors. If its not. Its either your power supply, power connection or your motherboard itself.

If works with another power supply. Its probably your power supply that fried.  No fan running or anything would be a huge hint.

This one has a blue light that's under the ASUS logo on the underside of the board.  It's lit when power is applied to the power supply whether the PS is on or off.  That seems normal.

The case fans start up.
I disconnected the hard drives too.
There is no memory installed right now - waiting for beep codes.....

Not sure if mine beep at all to be honest since  I did not connected the PC speaker of doom of the chassi.

I use the videocard and my bios, If you can access it all component should be connected correctly.

My power indicator led is green but i guess there is more than one version of the P5B.

Suggest that you etheir take the mobo to the shop or salvage any power supply and quick connect just the mother board and a video card to see if it work.

Here my troubleshooting procedure :
with a new motherboard : verify if all mounting standoffs correspond with the holes in the mobo !!
Or test the mobo ouside the case, on a wooden  (non conductive) surface
clean the system from dust, then  test with the minimum setup - disconnect also all peripherals and network cables :
connect only  motherboard + cpu + 1 ram stick, video card, power supply
verify that the 4-pin or 8-pin CPU Aux power plug is connected
on boot, do you have a display?
if NO it is one of the connected, swap ram, Power supply, video card or monitor - leaving only motherboard and cpu
if Yes, add devices till the problem shows

you can also check the motherboard for bad capacitors as shown here :   www.badcaps.net

additional tests and things to try :
boot without ram, it should beep; (also, without video card)
try bios default settings,(if possible) or clear the bios by removing AC and bios battery

The power supply wasn't it.
So, without beep codes, I understand it pretty much has to be the mainboard.
I'm replacing it.

Thanks but the beep code table doesn't list "zero beeps"   :-)
