The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Gigabyte - BIOS shows 2Gb when 4Gb is installed?

Asked by Alcedema in Computer Motherboards, Computer Memory (RAM), Personal Computers

Tags: BIOS, Memory, Wrong

Motherboard: Gigabyte EP31-DS3L (new)
Has 4 slots, capable of using 4x1Gb chips.

I had installed 2x 800mhz and 2x533mhz chips, only 2Gb was shown in bios and windows vista (no SP). I have since installed SP2 and 4Gb is shown in Vista, but still 2Gb in bios.

I took 2 chips out, still 2Gb is shown. I swapped the chips around, still 2Gb. I have used all 4 chips in different positions, only ever showing 2Gb. I changed the 533mhz for 800mhz chips, but still the same problem.

I am now running memtest, which shows 2Gb (I assume it's reading from bios) and doing tests from 132k - 2047M.

However, the Memory Sizing configuration shows options for BIOS - Std and BIOS - All. Setting it to BIOS - All goes up to 4Gb in the test (Still only 2047M in the Memory: Section) but displays a lof of errors and crashes.

I have upgraded the BIOS to FDc (beta), but even the mobo manual states that 4Gb is fine and other people have installed 4Gb.

What am I doing wrong?
