you will have to remove the CMOS battery for a minute and then put it back - this will remove any "memory" of passwords.

from another forum..... but you may want to look in the manual

Remove the CMOS battery. You will have to open up the 'clam shell' and remove all of the B25 and F6 screws from the bottom, as well as the B16 and B6 screws under the keyboard. To remove the keyboard, I had to pry up the trim piece that holds the power button and remove three screws. Be careful of the wireless wire leads, as you'll be tempted rip them out!

The CMOS battery will be under the right side of the hand rest, next to the mouse. It has two leads and the battery is in a blue 'bag'.

There is a supposed backdoor BIOS password of Toshiba for Toshiba laptops:

http://www.tech-faq.com/reset-bios-password.shtml

Or if that does not work - try this:

Resetting a Toshiba BIOS Password

KeyDisk will reset the BIOS password on a lot of Toshiba laptops.  http://www.cgsecurity.org/keydisk.exe

Older Toshiba laptops can be convinced to boot without their power-on BIOS password by attaching a dongle to the parallel port which crosses a number of the pins. The pin out is:

    Pins
    1-5-10
    2-11
    3-17
    4-12
    6-16
    7-13
    8-14
    9-15

Some Toshiba's can be convinced to bypass the startup BIOS password if you hold down the <LEFT-SHIFT> key while booting the system.

"Toshiba" or "toshiba" is used as a backdoor password for some older systems...probably not yours, but worth a shot.

Other than this, I'm afraid a box and some postage to Toshiba will be the only viable course of action.

The link I posted shows you a way to make up a Toshiba Parallel loopback adapter that will reset it if you are able to make it.  (Bottom of the document)

try this

http://www.laptop-repair.info/toshiba_bios_password.html

many solutions described required to open back panel, if you are not willing to do so, pls return Toshiba authorized service center, because the software you are using to break may not guaranty 100%, if bios fails you will be in trouble.

Saw that one. I am not technical enough for that. The thing is when I turn machine on, It goes to password promt before it shows what BIOS manufacturer or version is on motherboard. So my info is limited.

I did try to look more into the 25 pin connector and it shows a good success rate on clearing the password.

I know you said you weren't technical enough for it, but it literally only involves plugging a pin into each hole it says...these connectors come with wires that are pinned on both sides already and you take the two pins of the wire and plug them into the holes.  Like a puzzle really.  The only difficult one for you may be the first as it is three pins, so you would have to cut one of the wires in half and splice it with another full one...simple wire stripping and twisting though.  If you have a local pc parts supply shop around, or even (gasp) a Fry's and you take the pinout diagram with you, a lot of the guys are nice enough to pin it out for you if you ask them nicely and purchase the connector.

I would definitely try this if the passwords don't work, before spending the money on sending to an authorized Toshiba repair depot to have reset...I can foresee a lot of complications on that one as you acquired the laptop via an estate sale.

On the underside of the laptop - what is the full model A305D-S?????

by: jojosmPosted on 2009-09-23 at 17:41:16ID: 25409376

PSAH0U-OOQ009       A305D-S6848

ALSO MODEL DOES NOT HAVE SERIAL CONNECTOR

by: alanhardistyPosted on 2009-09-24 at 00:12:02ID: 25410682

I cannot find anything specific for your model - so you may have to go with the 25-pin Parallel device (not serial).

by: nobusPosted on 2009-09-24 at 00:17:38ID: 25410699

all those resetting Bios articles are long outdated; on modern laptops, the password is kept in a security chip, and modifying bios does not help.
you need to KNOW the password, or replace the mobo.
in some cases, the manufufacturer can help you when showing proof of ownership, but not for free !

This model only has a VGA connector.

Time for a call to Toshiba support then I think.

yes, I read it. I will wait a little longer for answers then figure out how to award points.

What is the difference between a "Power On Password" and a "HHD Password" and how do the respective types look on screen?

by: josh-grayPosted on 2009-09-24 at 13:14:38ID: 25417383

a power on password is what you have going on...password is prompted for AS SOON as the laptop is booted.  A hdd password will pass through BIOS post first...then ask when the hdd is attempting to access.

Give Toshiba a call anyway - you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
