Question

ASUS P6T has no No video on power up

Asked by: c7c4c7

I have a new build with an ASUS P6T, there is no video until you press the reset switch on the motherboard.  I've changed video cards with the same result.  Using the reset switch on the case does no good only the one on the motherboard.  This works everytime.  The problem only happens upon initial power up, once you get the system running restarts of the machine work normally

When no video, the machine seems to act normally except for the video.  Cann't tell for sure if the system boots, all the fans and the dives are spinning.

Any suggestions?

by: nobusPosted on 2009-10-31 at 01:21:05ID: 25708867

try default settings in the bios, or a bios update

also, depending on the cpu you use, you may need the update :  http://support.asus.de/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=P6T&product=1&os=17

by: c7c4c7Posted on 2009-10-31 at 10:56:52ID: 25710731

don't see anything about initial display settings, working on the update

by: c7c4c7Posted on 2009-11-01 at 22:14:54ID: 25717358

bios update didn't help either

What is wattage rating of system SMPS..mention here - 550

how many hardware attached to ur system,,, list here..
2 1tb hard drive
1 floppy
1dvd
1 monitor
1GEForce 210

or if u could do just cross check with high wattage smps..

The only question I would have, if it is the power suply why does it work evertime after I push the reset button on the Motherboard?

by: nobusPosted on 2009-11-04 at 23:56:27ID: 25747469

well, it can be a bad cpu also, but far more chances it's the mobo

by: xtreminatorPosted on 2009-11-05 at 08:49:47ID: 25751376

as i mentioned, it could cause of filter capacitors of SMPS....when u starts ur system,,, SMPS starts power according to requirement of hardware,,,,but cause of faulty SMPS filter capacitors,,,, system shutdowns cause, it cant take enough power from smps.... or pressing reset button it will starts as a cold boot condition..

well, for surity,,,, u can cross check,,, whether its really smps problem or something else..

by: nobusPosted on 2009-11-05 at 09:26:20ID: 25751771

bad capacitors are not likely on a new mobo - but it may just be bad...DOA

by: nobusPosted on 2009-11-10 at 00:01:08ID: 25783265

well  it leaves only mobo or PS
can you test with another power supply?  (i don't think it needs 550 W)
calculate what you need : http://www.extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine

by: c7c4c7Posted on 2009-11-10 at 17:05:59ID: 25791615

I all ready replaced the power supply see my comment 11/08

No joy

What's the possibility it has anything to do with the CPU?

by: nobusPosted on 2009-11-10 at 23:40:29ID: 25792974

not much; failure rates of cpu are about 5% opposed to mobo = 95% or PS
personally, i would replace the mobo first -i've had quite a few DOA's with them !

try to alternate slot

by: c7c4c7Posted on 2009-11-12 at 07:24:14ID: 25805336

I replaced the mobo once and had them test it before I left the store, it worked correctly there and didn't when I installed it at home.
I replaced the power supply and received the same problems
I've used every pci-ex16 slot on the boeard same result
I've used at least 3 graphics cards same result
I've replaced the memory, same result
The only thing left is the CPU, but don't understand why using the reset switch on the mobo would affect what the cpu does

thx

by: nobusPosted on 2009-11-12 at 08:10:29ID: 25805795

i can only say it's the only thing left, if everything is connect correct (we can't see that)

Trying to find a speaker to see if there are any beeps when the machine has the problem, not real easy thing to find.

by: nobusPosted on 2009-11-16 at 23:32:31ID: 25837568

look in the pc shops around, they shouyld have them !

by: c7c4c7Posted on 2009-11-20 at 21:30:19ID: 25876622

Quetion not abandoned

by: c7c4c7Posted on 2009-11-21 at 17:04:45ID: 25880371

With a speaker hooked up this is what I get

Machine powered up no beeps, the machine does not come up
Push and hold external reset switch for 4 seconds, there are no beeps and the machine does not come up
Push and hold the reset switch on the motherboard for 4 seconds there is a single beep and the machine comes up

If I push the reset switch without holding it for at least 4 seconds I get no beep and the machine does not come up.

Any ideas?

by: nobusPosted on 2009-11-21 at 23:48:44ID: 25881072

the reset and power-on switch connections are not swapped?  looks like it

by: c7c4c7Posted on 2009-11-22 at 10:07:50ID: 25882813

The power on and reset switch are connected correctly.  I get the same result if I use the power on switch from the motherboard, i.e.
not beeps unless I hold the reset switch down for 4 seconds

by: nobusPosted on 2009-11-23 at 00:00:13ID: 25885734

never heard that scratching my head... :
can you try another PS ? or another cpu or mobo ?
and if you disconnect both switches, and short momentaryly the pwron connection on the mobo - no start either?
you can also swap the switch connections (and use the power on switch then instead of the reset)

by: c7c4c7Posted on 2009-11-23 at 15:58:52ID: 25892783

I thought the next thing I would do is pull the motherboard and hook up the essentials outside of the case and see if the monitor works at power.

If that doesn't work I'll replace the motherboard again and verify it step by step outside of the case.  I've been reading a lot on various board that these boards have this problem, maybe you just have to keep trying them until you get one that works.

thx

by: nobusPosted on 2009-11-23 at 23:44:19ID: 25894843

that surely is not a bad idea. post results !

by: c7c4c7Posted on 2009-11-29 at 20:50:52ID: 25931594

Well I completely rebuilt it with yet another motherboard.  This time I tested it outside of the box with only the CPU, CPU fan and video card hoooked up........same result.

I'm out of ideas

by: nobusPosted on 2009-11-30 at 00:22:07ID: 25932315

the only option i see is contacting ASUS with your problem :  http://support.asus.com/contact/contact.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

you can try the live support site (did not work for me) or your dealer
i do hope you post results - i'm also out of ideas !
