How to calculate the power requirements of a number of PCs

Hi

I need to calculate the approximate power usage of a number of PCs in an office, so that an UPS solution can be looked at.

I believe the calculation would be  [total wattage of devices/ 1,000 = Kilowatts]

The question is would you use the maximum output of power supply (270w) for the calculation or the standard configuration figures (101w) which includes CPU, 1Gb memory, HD, ODD, FDD and operating system.

If the PCs are identical you could use the Journey Systems Power Supply Calculator and then just multiply the outcome by the number of machines you have:

first, i would measure the power used by several pc's, to get an average; with a kill-a-watt :

do not forget displays, printers, and other peripherals...used
that would serve as a base calculation (should be between 101 and 270 + devices)
Calculating the pc power, without the peripherals is not workable.
then it is up to you to provide a margin
