If everything looks right, then my assessment would be "Hello, NewEgg.com" as well. There's probably nothing you can do, since it's internal to the sower supply. Another possibility is that the speed controller or some other internal circuits inside the power suplpy has failed. I'd be cautious of a cowboy power supply and think about replacing it sooner rather than later.
Try this: remove the power supply and bow air through it. What if, when you were massing around earlier, you caused something to dislodge and fall onto the circuit board? All it takes is a tiny sliver of metal from a screw hole to fall in just the right place, and.
Maffoo is right - 99% chance you hace some debris on the PSU PCB
before going "Hello NewEgg!" you can opn the PSU, and clean it up.
4 screws on the chasis, and 4 screws on the PSU cover are all it takes.
if you require detailed instructions, do say so, an i would be glad to post accurate disassembly instructions.

Sounds like a failing fan. It probably was already near failure, and working inside your machine might have just tipped it off. When you say louder, I assume that means faster. This could indicate that the tachometer in the fan has failed, and as a precaution, the system is sending full power to it. Double-check that the fan is plugged in properly.
