We had a customer's server that would power on long enough for the lights on the motherboard to come on and the drives to start spinning and then it would power off so we called HP support. Although the server was out of warranty, the HP tech seemed to agree with us that it was the power supply and we ordered one from HP.
One of the employees of the customer went to a local office supply and bought a desktop power supply put it in the server and reported receiving the same results. The customer called us and told us it was not the power supply but the motherboard was the problem. We then ordered a motherboard.
Hopefully they will both arrive today.

For me do not try that. Its original power supply has the PFC property and as I remember it also has hot plug property too.. Usually the pc power supplies do not have these properties.
