ASUS P4V8X-MX motherboard will not boot, getting checking NVRAM and stops
I have a ASUS P4V8X-MX series motherboard, Celeron 2.26 GHz CPU install with a AMI Bios. When it boots, it gets to checking NVRAM and thats it. I'm able to get into the bios. I tried different memory, reset the bios, replace the 2032 battery. I took all the cards out and unhooked all the cables. This all happened after I tried to install a new network card. When I turn the system on for the first time, after installing the network card it gave me a error beep and did not boot. I took the card out and this error started. I'm running Windows XP Pro on the system.

Did CMOS clear when you changed batteries? If not, clear using jumper or remove battery for about 5 minutes and re-install.
If that doesn't work, try flashing BIOS provided you can boot from a floppy or check mobo manual for any BIOS recovery instructions.

The BIOS did clear and I tried a new battery. I was able to flash the BIOS pressing <Alt> + F2 during POST. The computer now boots up and finds all the drives. Then screen goes dark and on the screen is Checking NVRAM..Update OK!

I got it working using an old BIOS I found with the install CD that came with the motherboard. Not sure why the new BIOS off ASUS website did not work. Thank you all for the help
You're welcome. The "standard fix" did work!. Good move reverting to old BIOS. Give yourself a pat on the back.
