Howdy, install CPU-Z from here:

http://www.cpuid.com/download/cpuz_145.zip

Don't worry it's freeware and very well known utility for ID'n motherboard info, I use it.

Once you have it running, go to the Mainboard tab please and give us the manufacturer and model info.

To your knowledge this motherboard you were using included both sound and video on it and they gave you back the same in kind?

With that info though from CPU-Z you should be able to go to the manufacturer's web site and gather all the info and drivers.

If you have issues with any of that, please leave a comment.  8)

 Cheers!

Also download SIW http://www.gtopala.com/  (it's free)

This will give you information about motherboard and all of the devices on it.  You can use that to search for the drivers or just post the motherboard manufacturer and code here.

When you get the Model Number, you can go here:
http://www.foxconnchannel.com/support/downloads.aspx?ProductModel=6100M2MA-2.0-RS2H&TypeID=en-us0000003

You probably have a Socket 939. I don't think they made a Sempron 3600+ for the Socket AM2.

Chipset Vendor - ATI Technologies Inc

Chipset Model - RS690 Host Bridge

South Bridge - IXP SB600 PCI to LPC Bridge

CPU - AMD Sempron 3600+

OK Here are some of the devices.

http://hardware4linux.info/system/1927/

Realtek networking chip.  Radeox X1200 graphics.  Sound Azalia SB600.

Check these against SIW.  It should show these as well.

Thanks dbrunton... I have registered with that site but can't seem to download the required drivers.. Do I have to look elsewhere for these drivers or am I just being dumb? :)

by: dbruntonPosted on 2008-06-03 at 03:03:10ID: 21698754

Use the SIW application.

http://www.gtopala.com/  (it's free)

I've attached a screenshot of SIW in action.  In the left pane I have scrolled down to show the hardware on the computer and have clicked on Video.  In the right pane you can see the details of my video card.

If you can do this for your Video and Network card we can confirm that that you do have a Realtek NIC and Radeon X1200 graphics in your machine.  If it confirms that then we can go find the proper drivers for the machine.  Don't worry about searching for them; we can do that for you.

Don't worry if you think you are dumb.  We all are at something or the other.

Thanks for that... Unfortunately the machine is my home computer and I am at work in the office - Internet is not working at home yet (Don't Ask) as I've just moved house...

I got some screen shots last night but not sure if they tell me what I need to know..

Got a feeling when I clicked on video there was nothing there..

Thanks for your help..

If the networking works then add a firewall and an antivirus package and point your computer at Windows update.  I presume you are using Windows XP.

http://windowsupdate.com

Update and it may find some more drivers for you.

Whoops, your home Internet is not working yet.  BT?

Use SIW and under Hardware --> Devices --> Sound, Video and Game Controllers you'll find a variety of tabs.  One of those will identify the sound card.  Just take the name of it for the moment and report back what it is.

by: brookbaPosted on 2008-06-04 at 01:33:53ID: 21707945

Thanks for all the help... Installed the LAN and Graphics drivers last night. All was fine, just need to install the .NET framework.

I now need to find the drivers for the Sound and Chipset?

I have got the following screenshots to show the details of my computer...

Are there anymore important drivers I need?

Thanks

by: dbruntonPosted on 2008-06-04 at 03:50:44ID: 21708652

Nope, I'm having trouble getting the rest of the drivers.

ATI who supply the drivers for your motherboard are of no help at their website.

What may work is when you get Internet access you can use the Foxconn live update process which will update your BIOS and drivers for you.

That download is here.  It's not quite the right link but hopefully it should work for you.

http://www.foxconnchannel.com/support/downloads_detail.aspx?ID=en-us0001486

The chipset looks like an ATI 690 chipset but there's no universal driver package that I can find for it.  What the sound chip is I'm not certain; could be Realtek or another firm but I can't bet on it.

Just a quick update.... The driver above did not work. I have since found out that the actual motherboard model is A690GM2MA. Searched for sound drivers on their website and it comes back with 'Not Found Data!'

I now have internet access at home so can use the web to search.. Any more suggestions on this?

Which is pretty much the drivers that have been downloaded.  Only the motherboard code is different.

From the link you gave click on the Drivers link on the right hand side and download the Realtek HDA audio driver.

You might want to grab the AMD chipset driver as well and install it first before the Realtek.

by: brookbaPosted on 2008-06-09 at 02:26:32ID: 21741865

After mulling it over I decided to buy a new sound card. £12.99 from Maplin... Problem resolved!!

Thanks everyone for the help and links to the other drivers...

by: coral47Posted on 2008-06-09 at 20:50:30ID: 21748360

Thank you much.   : )

>> After mulling it over...

: D  That's one way to do it.
If you want to play with the onboard at a later time, you usually have to install the HD audio bus driver, before the sound driver.
