Hi i have a custom built PC which is now runnig at Failsafe defaults in the BIOS in order to eradicate an issue whereby my system just powers itself off randomly whilst im working. I don't know how to go about investigating the problem as there are no errors generated in the Event log, nor is there a bluescreen, no beep codes and no number codes (that show on the LED on the motherboard).
I have been using my system without any problems for around 2 weeks (since installing my new 280 GTX gfx card) and then all of sudden this just keeps on happening. I am currently working on a brochure for a client that i am due to send over today and i'm really worried now that i wont hit my deadline, so your help is invaluable to me.
A few points: Just before the computer will cut out i hear the Hard drives turn off. The pc doesn't restart it just turns off. I can boot to windows fine in some instances and at other times the same thing happens even when i am just looking around in my BIOS. I had one beep code for the first time ever this morning, 2 consecutive short beeps- pause- and same again continuous, but can't find anything on beep codes on EVGA website. I have a Silverstone Fan controller installed that monitors and controls my CPU fan (amongst others) however recently i have seen the CPU fan (Zalman CNPS9700-NT nVidia Tritium) change speed settings a few times during boot, ie: start slow, speedup, slow back down - it almost looks like its struggling for power- whereas before it was just a constant speed. I have pulled out one DIMM and the computer boots fine but haven't tried using the pc excessively ith just one DIMM installed (which is what i'm about to do and see if a stick of RAM may be the problem). The PC turns off completely randomly, theres no particular application that triggers it, sometimes as explained above, i don't even need to be in windows in order for the cut-off to happen.
If theres any other info you need please let me know, i am writing this on my laptop which is fully functional though not very good for working on.
Many thanks in advanced.
