The Solution Rating System
|
|
| With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating. - The Grade of the Solution
- The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
- The Number of Author and Expert Comments
- The Number of Experts Contributing
- The Feedback of the Community
Your Input Matters Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site. If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support. Thank you! |

Asked by Donnie616 in Hardware Components, Hard Drives & Storage, Computer Hard Drives
I have a Gateway 510 PC that was on a network and previously booted from that network domain, I believe. I have replaced the HDD, but I cannot get a new OS System to install. It is set to boot from DVD drive or th CDRW drive, but neither of them spin the disk at boot time to begin the OS install. They both appear to operate correctly. they open and close, their lights go on but do not blink (it is solid), they are seen in the BIOS, AND I am positive the bios is set for them to boot from one or the other. No matter what, they try to boot every which way except the way I want them to. I do not even know if this is a harware or software or MBR issue. that is why i am here.
I have tried many different HD's as well. I am not an expert, but I do know a bit more than the average person, I think. There appears to be a problem with this thing's memory of the old way it used to boot before I got it. It consistently trys to boot from a network, with a 90 second timer. if the particular hd i am using has a OS on it, it actually tries to boot to it before it figures out that that particular OS does not belong to it and then it reboots itself.
I think I know the issue (I THINK I do), but I need to ask can anyone tell me how to make this PC boot to CD?DVD so I can install an OS?
thank you in advance
