cisco pix 506e , pdm version 3.0(4)

we have a problem accessing a pix506 vpn. We can only pdm from ie 6 and java 1.3.1_20 in to the pix506e. We can't pdm from ie > 6 or other java.

How can we access pix506e from other IE versions?

Please advise.

Q. Does PIX Device Manager (PDM) run on Windows Vista and Windows 2008?

A. PDM works with Java Plug-in 1.4.2, and Vista's Internet Explorer comes with a much later version. In order to access PFM/PDM on Vista or 2008, you must run Sun's JRE v1.4.2. You can download the JRE version from the Sun's website.

Note: Any version newer than Sun's JRE v1.4.2 that is not compatible with PFM/PDM.

The newer ASA's can work with current versions of Java for sure, but that also requires a purchase.

Upgarde the PIX to 8.0 or higher and then use the ASDM to access it.

Our current versions are:
pix506e 6.3(5)
pdm 3.0(4)

does upgrading the pix to 8.0 allows to access the pdm under recnet jre versions?
can i upgrade from pix version 6.3(5) to 8.?

There are some configuration changes between the versions, but also you would no longer be using PDM but ASDM. The upgrade should allow you to use the newer Java versions

After the upgrade is done do i loose the running config? if so can i reload a previous saved running config file under the new pix 8.0?
