Question

Realtek AC'97 Audio driver won't install properly on EMachine T2862 running XP (quick flash of blue screen and restarts)

Asked by: MarkusRuckus

I had to format and reinstall XP (all updates ran and SP2 installed) on this T2862 that is supposedly "designed for windows XP" (HA!) I had a little problem finding all the drivers but it seems that http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Filter_Results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductID=1065&OSFullName=Windows*+XP+Home+Edition&lang=eng&strOSs=45&submit=Go%21 had all of them, if that is the correct board that I deducted from my research. Anyway, everything went well and all drivers installed fine, except for this stubborn Realtek AC'97 audio drivers. I have even gone to realteks site and found a codec pack, but to no avail... When I run the drivers from the intel site, it warns me that it is not passed windows compatibility testing (I'm paraphrasing) but I continue and it get about 90-95% complete then flashes a BSD and before I can read anything it is already restarting. Same outcome if I let windows try and find the drivers itself.. I know that the sound worked right before the install... It's just a matter of having the correct drivers which this page basically confirms that I do http://www.e4me.com/support/product_support.html?cat=Desktops&subcat=T-Series&model=T2862 but I guess that something I am doing isn't right... I saw another post about this and it doesn't look like anything got solved.  I don't see a point to installing a aftermarket sound card when this one should/did work.... FU** emachines tech support... thanks for $50 drivers, I'd rather piss in a light socket.

Don't know what happened with the link. Sorry about that. Here's the audio information:

Audio

Your unit has the Intel® D845GVSR (Sea Breeze) motherboard.

second note... Gambit_642 - I did a search on google for "SoundMAX_WDM_5_12_1_3571.exe" and found it on http://www.e4allupgraders.info/dir1/motherboards/socket478/D845GVSR_downloads.shtml  Anyway, installed that driver and all is good, I appriciate the help and believe that all is good, I am going to bed, but I will leave this open until tomorrow... I would like to know from deb9 if that VEN/DEV string is correct for that device and how to decypher those... thanks to all again!

Yea, the Intel website says that that board had a RealTek but it is incorrect.  It was a SoundMax, but don't worry, you weren't the first to be tripped by that.

In the future, just pop open the computer and follow the circuits (with a flash lite) running from the audio ports to a small chip also in the same general area on the motherboard.  RealTek usually brands a small crab on there chips along with the name of the company.

Thank you very much for the information.   If I had another issue like this can I reopen a question I asked before or re-ask it, you may have the answer I need.  It's about a EGS EliteGroup Motherboard model L7VMM2 Ver 1.1, I can post a new question if you can keep me in mind. Thanks again for your insight!
