Did you intalled High defination audio driver package that comes with the audio driver installer. Generally you will find it in a folder named MSHDQFE in the sound driver folder. if you can't  find then download latest driver from
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false
download the zip file not the exe file. Extract the zip file. Now uninstall the audio driver restart you computer and first install the high defination audio patch from the MSHDQFE folder present in the extracted file's folder. Note install the patch that corresponds to your system( sp1 or sp2). Now install the audio driver.

can you download the latest version of the driver from internet and install

by: mohd_haqPosted on 2008-03-18 at 10:23:39ID: 21153495

if you can't install the driver then you can simply install the patch and see if it works before uninstalling the driver

Hi Having the exact same problem with an inbuilt audio on Gigabyte GA-MA69GM-S2H motherboard. Despite downloading the lastest BIOS & Realtek HD updates XP still shows "no audio device". The only time the audio device shows correctly is when Realtek HD is deleted from the PC. Even then I still can't run Itunes music or hear any sounds over the speakers. Any ideas?

by: nobusPosted on 2008-05-26 at 23:55:33ID: 21649855

my idea is to post your question in a seperate thread, that would help you better than posting it in a closed question.

I was also experiencing the same proble with my dg33FB motherbaord, Realtek sound hardware,

If you are unable to unsinstall the driver completely,
In the registry Delete all the corresponding folders trees related to the  realtek product,
Regedit>Ctrl+F > Find window> Look  for "realtek"
Some entries are not allowed to delete even with administrative privileges, For such entries set the permission to everyone by right cliking on the corresponding registry folder
(This can be the reason for the failure to uninstall the driver.)
Once the existing driver is being uninstalled successfully, It  can be re-installed from the motherboard CD itself.

I was working on a fresh Copy of Windows XP SP3, When I tried to install the audio driver for the first time, It failed showing the above posted problems, Later I tried the above said steps and now It Works Fine.
It's  most probably a problem with the Intel driver Package.

I realize this is uber late. but i just had the exact same problem with my realtek audio drivers. it drove me insane. Finally i found the solution in a post somewhere online.

All i did was reinstall "Microsoft Bus Driver" and the realtek driver installation worked fine. hope it helps.

here is a link for the driver. dont know if its permanent or safe, but at least it worked.
