is it a front, or rear connection (maybe badly connected - check the manual)

The sound card is VIA AC'97 Enhanced Audio Controller PCI.
Ihave downloaded some but they aren't functioning correctly.
Sound plays when you wtrongly connect the audio cable to mic jack-in.
All parameters as regards multimedia under Control panel have been correctly set

Maybe the output of your card has been wrongly labelled and the MIC jack is actually the speaker jack.
