Trying to downgrade Vista to XP on HP dv6000 laptop. Graphics drivers not installing.

Can you access your desktop and internet at all?

Install the XP drivers, particularly the chipset drivers, from the HP site,

When you post an answer you get subscribed to the thread, and every time someone posts something in it you'll get an email so you are kept up to date.

Try this:
Start-Programs-Accessories-System Tools-System Information. Click on "components" and highlight "problem devices". Any hardware device with a driver problem will be listed here. Make a note of the PNP Device ID line of the entry. It will contain a Vendor number and a Device number (VEN. . . . DEV. . . .)
both four digits long.
Look up those numbers here:

This will tell you the manufacturer and the chip number.  First port of call is the manufacturer's website.  If no joy there, try a driver database like Driverguide:

You need the nVidia 630m chipset driver. This one has worked for other HP downgrades:

thanks for all the comments:  Rindi: I have already tried that driver and it gives me the error mentioned in the original post. Souseran: I aquired the 630m chipset driver and it cleared several devices, but has still left me without good video.

Phototropic: I already messed with the everest software, looking to identify the chipset to aid my searches, I will try your other suggestions later tonight.

EdwardWatts: im not really too intrested in throwing more money at this thing, but I suppose if the other stuff fails i will pay the $30

that driver, like the others, forced the laptop to suddenly reboot.  has anyone used the "MS Virtual PC 2007" is it a viable option? I'm nearing the end of the time I can spend on this before I have to tell the guy it wont work.

Was there an error message when it rebooted? Did you try installing it in safe mode?

32-bit or 64-bit OS?

If you want a virtualization solution, then use vmware server, not m$ virtual PC. Vmware is much better and robust, and is also free. Make sure you have enough RAM. Also it depends on the apps you have problems with in Vista. If those apps are resource hungry, they will run slow in an XP VM. Games will also not run too well.

the driver above locks the computer up with a black screen.  the hard drive does not move. I gave it 20 mins to work it out and then rebooted.  Safe mode install actually gets you to a "You must reboot your computer now screen" and then lockes up in the same manor. no error message, just blank.

Is everything else resolved in Device Manager? No exclamation points? This driver has worked for a number of HP downgrades, including on the 6600 series.

Do you have PNP Device ID details for the driverless chips?
