Where do I find the Dell Diags for the video card?
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsMy second laptop is also a Dell Latitude D620. Recently, I have been experiencing excessive heat with the computer and the video has stopped working. NVIDIA Quadro NVS 110M. It was intermitent at first, but now it gave way and only works on occasion. I was able to start up in the safe mode with the an internal VGA. Here I am able to run some of my applications.
Any suggestions as to what the problem might be and can I replace the video card or chip myself, without sending the laptop to someone for repair?

Yes.
Search for any of the following Dell part numbers for the systemboard :XD299 KD881 GK189
Installation instructions are here: http://support.dell.com/su
Download the Service Manual from the link provided.
Bear in mind that most online suppliers will sell on from Dell parts if the item is still listed so try Dell first.
Also bear in mind the part cost (around $180 with 90 day warranty) may mean it would be cheaper to consider a new laptop.

The video card is integrated on the motherboard so the entire motherboard would need to be replaced. Are you sure the card is bad? Have you ran the dell diags on the card? For the heat it's possible you may just need to remove the keyboard and palmrest and give the heatpipes and heatsink a good cleaning after a while just blowing out the vents doesn't help much.
