The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. Power issues on custom built PC

Hi guys,
I rebuilt my pc yday after my motherboard died. The spec is below. Very frequently, I turn the PC on adn the power just cuts out. It does the inital checks and shows the CPU, the ram and the HD, then as it loads windows or sometimes before the power wil just cut out.
I thought maybe the 480W PSU was being overloaded, so i removed all non essential devices and only had the CPU, HD and GPU plugged in. Same thing happened.
Ive checked all cables to make sure they are securely plugged in and not bent.
THis is a brand new motherboard, new ram, new case, fresh install of XP. That was the only time it stayed on for more than 10secs was when I reinstalled XP.
I check the temp in the bios and the CPU is aroun 36degrees C, which is the same as my old Athlon (non dual core) CPU.
I was going to replace the PSU and maybe get a new CPU Cooler. What do you guys think.
