Browse All TopicsRe-imaging these workstations with Windows XP, they came with Vista from CDW. Can't seem to locate drivers for two items showing up in the Device Manager...PCI Serial Port and PCI Simple Communications Controller. The boxes do not have modems. Have looked through Lenovo's site with no luck.

I just had the same issue on a Lenovo laptop. I discovered that within the BIOS Setup, there is a Config option called "Intel (R) AMT" which was ENABLED on this laptop. Apparently I do not possess the drivers that it needs to function properly because after I DISABLED it, the PCI Serial Port and PCI Simple Communications Controller issues went away.
I had the same problems with the Lenovo Thinkcentre M58. DapNotes was correct with the PCI simple communications controller being remedied by the Intel AMT drive. I found that grabbing the "Intel Active Management Technology driver for Windows Vista (32 and 64 bit), XP - ThinkCentre M58, M58p"

Have you tried the drivers for the motherboard? Often these devices are controlled by the BIOS on the motherboard. Also ensure that you install the chipset drivers as well as the storage drivers if present, I have seem systems crash becasue those things are not installed.
