Also just because the power supply is not very old, does not mean it cannot be faulty.

Browse All TopicsPIII 500 hz 512 meg memory, several yrs old, freezes without cause. using win ME w/o any issues. The mouse and keyboard also freeze. can not use cntrl/alt/del to reboot. sometimes freezes when just starting up. also will happen in safe mode, and when using startup disk (only gets to dos mode??). replaced power supply last year or so. ram mem check and tested ok, fan on cpu runs, have run with both sides off to be sure cooling and still freezes. have swaped out hard drives and still. need to solve or replace. no system changes to bios or other settings.

check for bad caps : leaking or bulging (mostly around cpu) dfan.php
check if all fans are running properly
install speedfan to monitor the temps : http://www.almico.com/spee
if too high, replace the heatpaste on the cpu
