No, I didn't. The installation package did not highlight that, and I have never had to uninstall previous drivers on Nvidia graphics cards. What do I do now? P.S. I am running .NET 2 framework

i think that the bundle you are installing is trying to use Catalist Control Center Version 7?
i use nvidia myself but have heard alot of similar probs to yours when working with 7, uninstall CCC, then try using 6.12
you can download it from HERE
i know the feeling of "well 7 is newer than 6 and i want to use my 7" but in this case, you will prob be best off using 6.12. (or get yourself a new Nvidia) :)
As far as old drivers go, it is always best to delete them when installing new ones, even though it will usually work ok without. deleting the old ones prevents driver incompatabilitys and other such issues.
if it is not trying to install 7 then let me know.
OK ... I uninstalled the old Catalyst drivers, and then tested my system after a reboot. It came up successfully without any errors, and at that point I created a system checkpoint as well as a Windows recovery CD.
Then, I downloaded and used Avanquest's Driver Genius Pro software to detetect and download the needed drivers for me. I created backups of all of my existing system drivers and then installed the downloaded drivers. I now have the latest Catalyst and ATI drivers and my system works fine now :-D
BTW ... how were you able to tell that the previous bundle was trying to use Catalist Control Center Version 7? were you able to decipher that from the error message?

Did you make sure to uninstall all previous drivers?
