They have said:
The Dell Optiplex System are designed for business that's why they are some restriction based on the designed to make sure it is suitable for business purposes. Unlike other Dell system which does not have any restriction basically for consumer such as Vostro and Dimension system.

Is this the disc that came with your computer or you've updated to SP3..?
ASKER
I updated to SP3.
ASKER
I told him all that and he has just said
As far as SATA PORT is concern, there is no restriction on the port but on the whole build of the system. You can put more than 500 Gb on the SATA port but due to the design of the system board, it can cause an issue. There are other optiplex system which can handle more than 500 Gb and if these is the need of the user, they are offered with this machine and not the system which can only handle 500 GB.

I am speaking to a 2nd rep as I type this.
ASKER
This rep has also said that the board can only support 500Gb, but it is not a fault, and that it is how the system is build. Apparently the motherboard can only handle 500Gb...
ASKER
This person is saying that this computer using a planar motherboard type. This motherboard has a chipset which can only support upto 500Gb. Apparently this was built in to reduce costs...
I don't see the logic...

The second rep claimed that it could be because of the chipset:
Intel® 945G chipset
Does anyone know if this chipset restricts sata hdds to a max size of 500Gb? Or if it could prevent POSt or slow down the system if larger HDDs are used?
