HP DVD/CD reader is not responding
HP Pavilion P7-1110 with W7 (32 bit). The DVD/CD will not read or write. The BIOS indicates that it is there as a SATA2 device. The DVD/CD model is HP DVD A DH16ABSH ATA. Windows does not show the drive under "Computer". Device Manager shows a "yellow" caution or exclamation mark. I've deleted the device, restarted the system but that did not solve the problem. I've looked for new drivers but the system indicates that this is the most current driver. I'm guessing that the device is inoperative needs replacement. Is there anything else I can try to be sure that it is a bad drive before replacing it?
you can also boot some live distro, Ubuntu for example and check if the ROM will work here (OS related problem) or not (HW related).
Or when I am thinking about it, it is enough to try to boot anything (memTest) to be sure if it is HW or OS related :)
