Browse All TopicsI have just performed my 1st PC build (all new parts).
Asus A7V333
Crucial 256 Mb DDR Ram
All-in-Wonder 7500
WD 80Gb Hard Drive
Asus DVD ROM
Installed Win XP and this system worked great for 6 weeks. Then one day BSOD.
Since then I have installed the o/s about 20 times. Tried Win XP, 98 SE and Win ME. Just can't track down the root of the problem. I get various errors, not a single one seems to be the same. This always results in the registry becoming currupt at boot. I can fix it and it boots eventually, but I can't track down the problem.
I have taken all the kit out of the motherboard and re-set it again in case it was a connection type issue. No joy. I upgraded the Bios (1015), still no joy. The BIOS is on the default setting except with PNP o/s enabled. I've even tried another hard drive, still same problem manifests itself.
I've tried running this with no apps other than the default o/s and some display drivers (tried original and updates from ati) don't think it's that.
Used SiS Sandra to run tests when It boots OK and it runs through them all fine with no errors.
Here my typical scenario:
Format HD
Install O/S
Install Dispaly drivers
Reboot - everything is OK
Power down and reboot - OK
Power down for 1 hour, reboot - OK
Power down & leave overnight, reboot - mostly but not always GPF error and then usually message about registry being currupt, either run the scanreg /fix or /backup and get then system up. Works OK until I leave overnight again and the system is vunerable.
I really think it's hardware related but I don't have spare memory or another MB to test this. Are there tools to check these,
I'm on the right track here?
I'm I becoming delerious?
Are there demons at work on my PC through the night?
Is this my 1st and last attempt at a self build.... Argh Help
