Would anyone help me with the WinXp boot problem?

hi everyone, recently after i used the HP system recovery the machine gives me a blue screen saying "STOP: 0x0000006F (0xC0000034,0x00000000,0x00000000,0x00000000)
Session3_Initialization_Failed" and goes no further before it reboot. i looked up the MS support site it said that this was caused by "A file critical to system initialization, such as Smss.exe, may be missing or corrupted." i used a winxp recovery console disks to boot the machine, and found that the smss.exe was missing. So i copied this files from another computer of mine(i was not sure if all smss.exe on diffrent machines were the same)

after that, Session3_Initialization_Failed seemed to be solved(maybe), the machine gave a normal first-time run xp screen" please wait windows to start...", while i was waiting it reboot, after that it reboots after the winxp logo shows again and again(after the logo there is a bluescreen flashs, too fast for me to read, seems to be error massage like 0x00000034 or something)

could any one please tell me what i should do?maybe give me a list of all the initialization files that needed by WinXp boot?

my computer is hp 750n, no winXP cd because the hp computers have built in recovery partition, i have a win2000 advanced server cd however.

Sorry for my bad english, it's not my first language

i'll appreciate any reply...

Have you checked your machine for a virus? You may need to boot "clean" from a floppy or CD-ROM and then use a virus program to check it.

Also, a RAM module could be bad. This is especially true if the error address changes and/or the filenames change. Usually with a case of a truly missing file it is always the same. Usually with a case of a "hard error" the error address stays the same. When I see numbers and filenames that change, I think virus or bad RAM.

Thanks, cap269.
You mean maybe there's virus in my C drive or in the hidden hp recovery partition?

I couldn't read the second blue screen clearly since it was too quick, i'm not sure if it differed from the first one cuz the only thing i saw on the second one was  ...00034 which also appeared in the first one. And if i don't copy the smss.exe to the system32 folder the error massage remains the same(first one)

and the win200 advance server worked perfectly on the machine. But still i want to recover my xp

anyway i'll get a anti-v boot disk and try

thanks
well i used the Norton AV 2003 Emergency disks to scan the memory, master boot record and boot records, however it told me the c drive can not be scaned. Actually if i use xp recovery console i can't create directory, can't create file under c drive(i can copy files onto it, strangely)

anyone could help?

...since the new year's day i've been stuck on this...
The XP recovery console isn't a true DOS, it's just a limited shell that lets you do a few functions. Also, if you formatted the drive with NTFS instead of FAT32 you won't be able to boot from a system disk and "manipulate" the filesystem.

You may have to reinstall the OS at this point. The good news is that once the OS is reinstalled, as long as you don't format the partition, you can use the advanced security features and take ownership of your previous data files. You will have to reinstall any applications to restore their registry settings, though.
ok, a silly question, how do i fmt the disk with fat32? the boot disk only takes me to the recovery console. mayme i should download dos6?

and is it possible that some files in the hp recovery partition has been damaged?

you told me to reinstall, but i don't have a winxp cd, if i do the recovery, the problem remains the same, right?

Thank you very much anyway.

Sounds like the recovery disk did not run correctly.

Some of the HP recover disks have disk utilities so you can fdisk the machine, What machine is it ?

First off I would run the recovery disk again. if it fails then get a boot disk and run fdisk to remove all partitions. Dont set up any partitions on the Hard disk as the recovery disk will do that for you.
i guess that's a recovery partition, not a disk, thanks though.
In case anyone else needs to fix this problem. I was repairing an HP Pavilion 7915 with a Samsung 40GB Hard Drive that a worm destroyed windows. I tried to install XP Home from a XP Disk since the recover disk was lost. I kept getting the same error. So, I saw that there was a partition put there by HP. I downloaded Maxblast3 from the Maxtor site and used the utilities that let you zero the drive. I used the full option. It took 2 hours but it did the job. I was then able to run the XP install with no problems.
Hello,

I ran into that same problem today on an HP Pavilion 7955. Samsung 40GB Drive, Toshiba DVD-ROM, CDD CD-RW. The Windows XP Home system was really messed up beyond expected recovery repair.  I blew out both (Hidden HP and Standard) partitions using a great tool available free via search  "Delpart.exe" just put it on to a system botting floppy run delpart.exe and your done.  Anyway I bought a copy of WinXP Pro OEM for my customer and I kept getting the same error mention on this post "SESSION3_INITIALIZTION_FAILED".  I check the BIOS verison that was upto date (11/22/2001), cable were all good, drive was not suffering from hardware issues nor RAM issues.  Bottom line your post got me thinking... Since I was using the CD-RW all along...why not try the DVD-ROM instead...so I went into the BIOS to select that as the device to use instead of the CD-RW and BAM! all good now.  So you guys may want to try just using another "CD/DVD" device all together.  Suggestion, it has been my experience that a good portion of HP desktop suffer from absolutely !POOR! ventilation design, that is why lots of Hard Drive die inside these cases.  Please do yourself a huge favor and buy a simple fan and rig it close to the hard drives to help cool them off a bit.

Thanks

I recently ran into this same problem on a hp pavilion (piece of crap) 360n. First I had to use partition commander to delete all the partions then I used a win98 floppy start up disk and made 1 primary partion and used the command A:\format /u c:. Since I couldn't obtain the recovery disks from HP and my drive was shot I had to install windows 98SE and then upgrade it using a friends XP disk and the code that came with the computer. Good Luck to all you own HP's.
When booting XP CD for setup, I got the same SESSION3_INITIALIZATION_FAILED message. This discussion was very helpful to me- I tried a different hard drive, no change. Made sure the CPU was firmly in, removed and reseated the memory, and that seemed to do the trick.
