Yes. Display drivers are the problem. Did you get a CD with your system? You may have integrated video. If that is the case the video drivers should be on the CD. Do you have a manual? If you have the manual and integrated video it will tell you the kind of integrated video you have. You could also look up your model system at www.sony.com

You may not be doing that right.
Your problem as nothing to do with the monitor. Your's a problem of graphic card drivers!!
So forget your monitor, and find out what your graph card is.
I am assuming you are using some sort of windows.
If you go Control Painel, open the Monitor, and select the Settings tab you can see that your graph card is being detected as a VGA card, meaning 640x480@16colors.
You can start identifying your graph card by looking at what it writes in the screen when the PC boots. Some graphics wont write to the screen, but the ones that do, write the very first text that appears when the PC is started.
If that can't help you must open up your PC (I hope it is just a few screws) grab the graphic card and see what is it's brand and model. If you can't figure it out, at least identify the chipset (the BIGGEST integrated circuit on the card).
Either by brand/model or by chipset, go to the net, search for drivers and install them.
