Question

Where can I find usbehci.sys?

Asked by: Volga

I am upgrading to a new 2.4GHZ computer that came with USB 2.0. When I'm trying to use the accompanying disk to install new drivers for this system, most devices drivers (sound, Ethernet, etc..) were installed correctly with no problem.

But when it comes to USB (V2.0), it is asking for a file named usbehci.sys. This file is not on the CD itself, and the message told me to look at Microsoft site. I went there and do a search but couldn't find any file named usbehci.sys for download.

Please can someone give me any suggestion?

What OS?
USB2.0 is not available for Win9x or NT4 - http://www.microsoft.com/hwdev/bus/USB/USB2support.asp

What versions of Windows? This file is a part of Windows and should be installed _IF_ your USB hardware requires it.  Alternatively, there are other USB drivers that may be used including usbohci.sys and usbuhci.sys.

But WINDOWS will know which to use and all should be installed under:

C:\Windows\system32\drivers

There should never be a time for you to install this file manually.

I'm using Windows XP. I already looked into C:\Windows\System32\drivers but still couldn't find usbehci.sys

In this case Windows XP was installed earlier in a computer with USB V1.1 and it worked fine. All I did was changing to a newer computer by moving the old hard drive to the new computer.

Sorry, this is not an acceptable way to install WinXP.  Chances are good that you will not get this to operate properly.

But a thing to try is to open the DEVICE MANAGER and DELETE all the USB items.  Then reboot and let WinXP re-detect all the hardware and install the proper drivers.

Thanks for all your inputs. All of you are right but Snowguy gave me the fastest solution, where I can find and download that file usbehci.sys.

jhance and slink9 also gave correct answers but at this moment I don't want to spend time reinstalling Windows XP at least for now. I remember the last time it took me the whole evening installing it.

I tried this solution too, and it did help load the drivers initially but one component of the USB 82801DB/DBM USB Universal Host controller -24C2 shows up with a small yellow "warning" symbol as if it was not functional.  The pc has constant problems connecting USB devices.
