Ever since I first installed Medal of Honor, and it has continued with Battlefield 1942, I've been experiencing seemingly random crash problems while running the games. After starting the game, it will crash to the desktop at times up to 1hr in. If I restart the game without rebooting, it will either crash to a black screen or to the blue screen of death. First indications pointed to the onboard sound card, but updating drivers and even disabling the sound in the system BIOS had no real effect. A USB driver was singled out once but disabling the USB ports in the BIOS had no effect either.
Actions taken so far:
Installed latest patch for BF1942
Updated sound drivers (seems to have stopped the crash to the blue screen)
Updated video drivers
Played with sound card disabled
Played with USB ports disabled
Upgraded from DirectX 8 to DirectX 9
System Config:
Gigabyte GA-7VAX board
AMD Athlon XP 2100+ 1.74MHz
512MB RAM
AC97 on-board sound
MSI MX440SE-T video card (nVidia GeForce4 MX440SE)
80GB WD harddrive (64GB free after installation)
Any suggestions for what I can try next or, better yet, what will fix this problem?
Thanks.
