The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. Installing an OS on a Dell Notebook problem ...

I have a friends notebook computer here and I promised her I'd be able to install an operating system for her. What I was not counting on was that the notebook can only use its removable cdrom or floppy drive at one time, not both at the same time.

Basically, I popped in the boot floppies to install the MS Windows 2000 OS, and that all went fine, but then it asked for the CD ... I then removed the floppy drive from the notebook and put in the cdrom with the CD, but it cannot recognize the CD without restarting the computer. However when you restart it needs to reload the floppies for booting the computer.

I have also tried to see if the CD would boot, but it did not. So am I stuck? What options do I have? I have done this hundreds of times on other desktops and notebooks, but never had this problem.

The laptop is a Dell Inspiron 4000. I have Windows 98/00/XP CD's and boot floppies.
