DVD-Rom Drive not recognized on PC but opens and closes???

I recently had my power supply changed and when I got my PC back from the shop neither of my dvd drives are recognized on my PC???  When I boot up I get this message saying primary drive failure???  I'm not to sure what BIOS settings should be but I am running a VIAO desktop with windows XP.  Any help will be much appriciated!! Thanks!

Sounds as if the IDE cable for the drives has become loose or disconnected, take it back to the shop and get them to check it out.

Sounds like your IDE cable is not fully plugged into your DVD drive. It is a common problem and is fixed easily. Just for your ease you might want to take it back to where you got your power supply changed and tell them the problem. Opening and closing is related to the power cable, power cable is the one that is connecting your DVD-drive to your power supply unit. If it's plugged in it opens and closes but has nothing to do with IDE cable. IDE cable is the cable that is connecting your Motherboard with your DVD drive or cd-rom or hard disk. And the dvd-drive can still open and close if only the power cable but won't operate properly if IDE cable is not plugged in correctly.

WARNING: i won't take responsibility for the next suggestions. Do them at your own risk.

Easiest way is to have a flashlight, screwdriver and your right hand :-) Plug off all the cables from the back your computer. open the left side of your case. And put a flashlight on the back of your DVD-drive. There you will see a white tipped coloured cable in the very front, that is the power cable. next to it will be a flat approx 2 inch long cable and may have various coloured tips. that is the IDE cable. Push it until you are sure if it is plugged in fully. Good luck

As mentioned above, if they changed the power supply, the most common thing to happen is that they forgot to connect the power cables to all the drives.

Thanks to all that replyed!  News...I tried disconnecting one of the DVD drives IDE cable.....its daisy chained...and it works fine right now.  I beleive its my IDE cable....gonna go try that out! Thanks again guys!
