Browse All TopicsI have a question about CPU Cooling fans. I'm building a machine with the following specs:
- MSI 865PE Neo 2 Motherboard
- Intel P4 2.8GHz w/ 800 FSB
- PC2700 512 MB RAM
- Coolermaster Aero 4 Lite CPU Cooler Fan
Now, my question is this - Intel's processor naturally comes with its own fan. From the description of this unusual looking fan looked like it cools quite efficiently. It even has a knob outside the chassis that allows you to control the rpm of the fan between 1900 and 3500.
Does anyone have any experience with this fan? Is it safe enough to replace the default fan? My concern is to make sure that the rpm is correct and is not causing overheating. Its like the dilemma that extra choices bring. I'd really appreciate some expert input on this.
Thanks in advance.

Since I posted the question I tried googling on any legitimate reviews on this particular cpu fan (Aero 4 Lite). This is one of the reviews I found detailed enough - http://reviews.pimprig.com
At the same time, its important to note that Callandor's CPU, even with the overclocking, is able to maintain a respectable 50C. However my question still stands - has anyone used a non-stock CPU fan and found a positive or negative effect either way? Specifically, I'm looking for users of Aero 4 Lite.
Thanks for some great info.
I am now using a Zalman CNPS 7000 heatsink, and it is quiet and efficient: I lowered my max cpu temperature about 7F.

I have been using Aero4 Lite and my CPU temp has never touched 60, even during games. Now, I wanted this information specific to Aero4 when I was ordering parts for the gaming machine I was building but now if someone else needs information, I have been using this since my first post on this topic, and it has performed better than a stock fan without a doubt.

Use one of these utilities for windows to monitor the heat index to see if they need any tweaking at all

Development of AIDA32 has been started years ago, and the project went first public in April 2001. AIDA32 has become the de facto standard for both home and corporate system diagnosis and network audit, winning several awards including "Freeware Product of the Year" by Support Alert newsletter in December 2002.
