Powerful computer, but can't play any games. help

Graphic Card : ATI Radeon 9800 pro

Ok, I have a 3.06GHz computer with 1024MBRAM, and I can't freaking play a computer game without my computer crashing. I get a blank blue screen and my computer shuts off. How can I resolve this problem? One time I got actual stuff on the blue screen and it said PAGE FAULT IN NON PAGED AREA. I dunno. Microsoft website error report said it could be faulty memory, but how can I check this?

go to here:
http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp
and download the windows memory diagnostic.
Use the program to create the floppy or CD version of the diagnostic, boot to the floppy or CD you create.  The test will run until you stop it.  Let it run through a good 5 or 6 times.  If the system shuts down, you have some type of a hardware problem (not necessarily memnor), if the diagnostic shows errors, you have a problem with the memory.

I suspect heat as a proplem since gaming does invoke heavy processor and video use. I would reinstall the CPU heat sink, make sure that thermal grease is spread evenly with no air gaps. Check the fans, including video and make sure they are all spinning. Move other PCI cards away from video card. Check power supply, should be at least a 350 watt.

Are you overclocking anything?  I had this problem when I would overclock my video card until I got some better airflow going in the computer.  I do agree with MrBillisMe, though, and think it's probably a heat-related problem.

Have you updated the video card with the latest drivers? i used to get a BSOD while playing a few games, but once i updated the drivers everything ran perfectly. might be something to try before taking your system apart.
