I use the above type of cable for connecting a pbx to a desktop. I am somewhere in a place where it will take at least a week to get the above standard cable. I am now thinking of modifying a 25 pin cable to suit my use.
I will like to know the color codings, i.e. which 9-wires out of the 25 can I connect to the 9-pin female end of the cable. I can solder and use it till I get the replacement.
Your help will be appreciated,
Regards,

You may only need a few of the wires to get it to work. Probably just the transmit, receive and ground(TXD, RXD and GND from the diagrams in link in the first message).
If this port is normally used to connect a serial printer to you may need a lot more of them to be connected.
Recently I was in a pinch and just chopped off a cable from a old serial mouse and wired it up. Got things up and running for me until I could get proper parts.
As for colors the GND is probably black and the TXD red and maybe green on RXD but there is no guarantee. The cable will have a whole rainbow in it but it does not take long to prove it out. If the connector can be disassembled you might be able to see what is connected to what pins but most are molded plastic these days.
