Question

Unknown slocket on Asus P2B-F...no picture!?

Asked by: abpdk

Hi

I'm trying to get an Asus P2B-F motherboard to boot a Pentium III 800Mhz processor, using a slocket from an unknown brand (haven't been able to identify it). I've tried both 100- and 133 Mhz fsb, but neither does the trick. As mentioned I don't know the brand/model of the slocket, so I don't know what the jumpers do (not good, I know).

If set incorrectly I would expect it to show the wrong speed at boot etc., but what actually happens is absolutely nothing. It does power up (spins up harddrive, various fans etc.), but there's no picture. Frustrating!

I have no clue as to what the problem could be, so any thought would help.

The cpu is 1.65V Malay, with 256KB and 133Mhz fsb

Hmmmm... the P2B-F seems to be a Slot1 66/100Mhz FSB mobo. It might not like the 800 PIII wanting 133Mhz fsb

What is a slocket? An adapter for socket370 to slot1?

ftp://ftp.asus.com/pub/ASUS/misc/

the above link it to ASUS documentation for their SLOCKETS

this link has some pictures of various manufacturers

http://www.sysopt.com/reviews/slotket/index.html

the jumpers controlled voltage and FSB.....        altho not unusual for some of that stuff to come out with no markings... you might look again to see if there are any numbers that may help id the slocket.

just a IMHO... I sold many P2B series boards... and played around with slockets... I never found a good balance.. they either worked..without much gain... or they just didn't.

The P2B will support up to a 1ghz processor (depending on PCB rev).... if you are determined to use the board... check EBAY out...         let us know the PCB#, can provide CPU options

if you check out the slotket there must be some product numbers on it,check out for those and just place these numbers here,,,
i aslo played with slotkets and i can tell you for sure ,that there ar ejust few slotkets which hav esupport for p2b boards  for sure,
the problem is not the vattage settings or fsb settings ,the problem is that th eslotket's BIOS must support th eBIOS of your motherboard,as clearer to say:the two BIOSes must be compatble,e.g. must can speak to each other,if they can't then th eslotket is useless fro your board, that's why th egreatest slotket makers has a compatibilty table on their sites where you can search for your motherboard and BIOS version, whether is supported by the slotket,,,,
