XP and Service pack 2. SiS PCI card is 1039, Dev 7012.
I had to reinstall system after apparent virus attack and found SP2 had installed C-Media drivers for the controller which didn't work. Found usfule info on deleting C-Media on daniweb forum by navyjax2 - very useful, no more C-Media files on disk or references in registry. And Advanced System Organizer reports no errors in registry. Got driver file from SiS website, XP Wizard starts to install but comes up with response before completing and aborts installation.
There's a conflict somewhere so, experts, please suggest where. I've uploaded complete system info (and will upload registry in the next few minutes) to

I've seen similar prioblems on forums before, usually without an answer. I'm pretty sure system is clean of C-Media files - after reboot, XP never reinstalls again once controller is uninstalled.
Getting worn out with this prob....pls help someone. Maybe its been solved before - if please excuse, I've just joined Exp Exch.

Your suggestions :
1) On boot, PCI screen reports :
Bus # 0, Dev # 2, Fun # 7, Ven ID 1039, Dev ID 7012, Dev Class "Multimedia Device", IRQ 3
Doesn't that signal the card's fixed OK?
2) (see below)
3) About to do that now. Will report if successful.
4) Aleady done. Been to SiS site. Got drivers specifically for Dev 7012.

Already done. Same response.
Wizard locates .inf .sys, etc, files OK, starts copying and installing, gets about three quarters of way through, stops, pops up response "...name already in use...", exits.

Thanks for your suggestions. I have a gut feeling the card's fixed OK, but in any case, the computer's under a heap of boxes - big job to get out and open up. But I'll do if all else fails.
I really feel it's a software conflict. If you've time, look at the system info I uploaded. Maybe you can see something I can't. Service Name? Don't understand...does that mean there's a second multimed card I can't see?
Thanks + Rgs to both.
try identifying it with Everest, then look up the drivers, and delete them from the disk

Uploaded Everest reports to

Sorry, I'm not sure what I'm looking for. As far as I can see SiS PCI card 1039/7012 is there, recognized, but has no drivers (because XP won't let me install them). In Dev Manager it's sitting there right now with a yellow ! showing, and says "drivers not installed...".
Maybe you can see something I can't. Everest reports don't identify problems that I can see related to audio.
Rgs
Ok,
I am not sure about this but it is also possible and it's easy to identify a conflict problem.
1-if the problem is of conflict windows would report itself. (you may look for this manually by taking the properties of soundcard in devicemanage and clicking resources)
2-if possible try to hook this pci card into different computer and see if it's working in other computer and see if it works there.
there is a great chance that the soundcard has gone faulty. a simple test to check this is to plug it into different computer. or unplugging other accessories.
Wish you goodluck!

In DevMan, Device Instance ID is a long string including "PCI....1039....7012"
Resounces : "...is not using any because it has a problem....."
TO: both
Well, since you both suggest the card's faulty, I've no alternative but to remove it and test it. But I can't do so for a few days - I've an urgent report to finish. Also, my mother's just been taken very seriously ill in UK and I will have to return there for 1/2/3 weeks (I'm in Hong Kong). But I'll probably get card tested before I go to UK.
I hope moderator lets this question stay open, meanwhile. I promise I'll return to follow up as soon as I can.
Rgs and Thanks to both of you.

Hi bgeo,
I can not understand the exact problem you are facing but if I were there in place of you than I would be trying following:-
1- make sure that pci multimedia controller is firmly fixed into the motherboard.
2- change the PCI slot of multimedia audio controller.
3- boot into safemode, open devmgmt.msc, view -> show hidden devices. and remove audio controll / unknown device from there.
4- looking at venders site if it have any instruction for windows xp
Cheers!
