BSOD while installing windows XP - HELP!

Hello Experts,

I am trying to build two PC's based on Asus P5LD2 mainboards. I already have one that I run media center on and it has never caused me problems.

The two machines I am building now will not install Windows XP Pro. I get a blue screen error;

STOP 0x0000007b (0xf7c7a524, 0xc0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

or

STOP 0x000000f4 (0x00000003, 0x85946138, 0x859462ac, 0x8060586)

Things I have tried include;

Updating the BIOS to the latest version
Changing the connectors around as per this website:   http://tinyurl.com/7uw8w

I have managed to get a full install done if I;

Don't use RAID
Use an IDE hard drive

But I am trying to build one of these with a striped raid array consisting of 2 x 160 Gig SATA drives, and the other box is going to have a mirrored array with 2 x 80 gig SATA drives.

I'm off to tear my hear out, but I'm hoping someone has an idea of how to get this working.

Try using older drivers for the RAID device.  OR look for newer drivers.  It basically sounds like your having issues with the SATA drivers.

It does. :-)

I don't have access to older drives though, so thats not an option. The drives I'm using are (afaik) SATA-1, I haven't bought any SATA-2 that I am aware of.

I'm trying XP Pro 64bit now on one machine to see if that works any better.

I'll see if I can find better drivers on the Asus webby.

New Drivers  - same problem, except the BSOD reports at iastor.sys is the problem.

I'm fast running out of things to try :-(

probably a bad mother board, since you can install in ide and non-raid.
probably a bad raid controller
have a warranty replacement

I had trouble installing one of these motherboards (P5LD2-deluxe) last week! Mine is setup with a single sata drive. In the end the solution was to create driver diskettes from the CD that came with the board, press F6 during the XP setup, and load the driver from the diskette when prompted. I had success on the 3rd attempt - it needed the ITE8211 IDE driver disk in my case.

Getting the latest intel drivers from the intel website solved the problem. phew. :-)
