The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. PC won't reboot after installation of new heatsink/fan

Hi.  I asked the above question a few days ago and got responses from dvation191 and sparkman.  Since then I've done a couple of things.  One is install a brand new processor - no luck, still get same problem.  Another is to investigate the Zalman site.  Couple of things jumped out.  The new fan is using a fan controller system that I connected correctly.  However, I noticed on the site http://www.zalman.co.kr/usa/product/view.asp?idx=70&code=017 that they mention that some motherboards won't boot if the fan's rotation is too slow.  My old fan had a substantially higher rotation speed (and consequent noise, hence the replacement).  Of course I set the Zalman to its highest speed, but that is less than half the speed of my old fan.  Is the best way to diagnose this to reinstall the old fan, hope it reboots and if it does see if there is a way to change settings in the BIOS to allow or disregard lower fan speeds?  My motherboard is a Chaintech 9CJS Zenith (Socket 478) that has always performed beautifully (although it has the usual shitty documentation).  I haven't played with the BIOS in a while so I can't remember if there is a setting relating to fan speed.  If there isn't anything in the BIOS am I out of luck?  I guess that is relative since if the old fan works I at least won't have to replace the MB!  Let me know if anyone has any ideas.  Thanks very much.
