Game PC Recommendation - Custom for <= $1,000 ...

ok. I'll check out the various answers I get here and award based on what looks most promising.

I'm looking to swap ONLY my current tower, not the display or any other external device.

I would appreciate some credible experienced recommendations on a gamer PC configuration, something that will cost under $1,000. It can be a custom-build. Whatever you would put into this thing, it should have no problem running well something like Battlefield 2 series games at high video / sound detail. A credible source to purchase should accompany.

Gamer, what would you do with the money if it were yours to spend ? Note that I have favored AMD, but please feel free to make a case that would take me a different direction. Performance, compatibility, stability, ... all are factors of course.
