Browse All TopicsHi eXperts, i am a software developer that is a bit of a noob when it comes to hardware, so sorry if i dont have all the specs covered...currently I am trying to setup Windows SBS 2003 but am having a bit of trouble. k here goes.....
The system I have is an HP Pentium III 3.00Ghz, with 2 x 80GB Maxtor Drives that I have mirrored (Raid 1). There's a CDROM drive but no floppy.
I mirrored the HD's using the motherboard Raid Config Utility (via Ctrl A) and they have finished building/verify so that the config utility shows their status as 'optimum'.
When I rebooted, the standard BIOS Setup Utility doesn't detect the HD's, all it shows is:
Hard Disk 0 - CDRom
Hard Disk 1 - None
'' '' 2 - None
'' '' 3 - None etc...
From here the system boots the SBS CD in the drive but stops soon after running with the message
"Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer
Make sure all your hard drives are properly connected etc etc
Setup cannot continue"
However, during startup the raid array is found:
"Array#0 Raid 1 Optimal"
"1 Array(s) Found"
and when I run the RAID config utility the following is detected:
SATA Port#0 Maxtor 6Y080M0 Rev#YAR5
SATA Port#1 Maxtor 6Y080M0 Rev#YAR5
SATA Port#2 No Device
SATA Port#3 No Device....
My stab in the dark at what the problem could be is that configuration files required for the HD's are not installed, but unfortunately the company I work for is pretty messy when it comes to storing CD's / floppy's so I dont have any hard drive config utilities (or do i not need any and should just stick to programming?)
This system is new but did come preinstalled with SBS but I wanted to reinstall and no! I can't boot it any more.
If you can guide me to installing SBS 2003 from here it would be really appreciated and a HUGE help.
Thanks heaps,
Phram3z

you must get the driver for the scsi controller on a floppy disk, when you boot to your sbs CD and it says press f6 to load a scsi driver, press f6 and load the driver off the floppy. Since the hard drives are connected to the raidcontroller, the OS will not recognize that they are present unless it is able to "talk" to the raid controller correctly (which apparently it cannot do without the driver)
good luck
