I work part time for a small office that is having backup problems. There are 8 PC's on a Win98 Peer-to-Peer network, with a couple of XP machines. Currently the bookkeeper makes daily backups from her PC to other PC's on the network that are mapped to her PC using an HP tape drive with Travan 3 cartridges. However, this has grown to become a cumbersome project, taking quite a while and frequently getting error messages of not being able to access PC's during the backup process. Everyone wants their My Documents and Outlook folders backed up, but do not clear out old material, hence it is taking longer and longer to do this.
We do not have a very large IT budget, so economics is essential. Are there better methods than what we are doing? How about backing up to a CD? Your recommendations will be appreciated. Thanks
