The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Reformatted Hard Drive: Now having driver issues!

Herro!

After all sorts of problems, I thought I would format and partition my hard drive, and re-install Windows.
All has not gone to plan however and after solving a few problems, I seem to have over-worked my brain.
I am quite confused on what exactly is in my computer and what does what so Qu. 1):

Is there a link that someone can point to that gives me a quick tuition on what the role/difference between the Motherboard, Chipset, SPD, CPU etc etc (basically all the headings on Everest) so that I can converse intelligently on EE?

Right, secondly. I have included the Everest hardware report at the bottom but I have a few, probably related problems.

1) MESH computers (the manufacturer of the PC) directly me to 3 links:

http://dlsvr01.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/sock478/p4r800-vm/Chipset_Win2K_XP_7_991.zip

http://dlsvr01.asus.com/pub/ASUS/misc/audio/ad1888/AD1888_W.zip

http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_84.21.html

Which I followed, saved and unzipped in a location very close to the c: drive before running them.

The chipset program included when installing with a custom setting the 3com ethernet support and AGP GART Support from ATI
It installed fine until restarting at which point it hung on a black screen after the windows logo. Restarting it manually with the button on the front gave me a screen which gave me the option to start with the last known good settings.
When selecting just the ethernet option, all was good. Hence I am online.

The asus audio AD1888_W link started installing before coming up with the error: Severe! Driver not found. Reboot and run setup again.

After running Everest and looking on the Asus website, I thought the AD1980WHQL package was more appropriate but it came up with the same error. So I visited the Creative website and downloaded the package for My Audigy 2 Sound card . Hey presto, Sound!

Then there is the bottom link to the NVidia package, now as I am running Media Centre Edition, I beleive it is the wrong link anyway. So I found the correct one, and installed, Graphics seem to be working OK on my flat screen.
Dual View is not working though. In the NVidia control panel Single view only is available. Although if I select TV I can get the single view on the TV only...

According to Everest AGO Support is still not installed so I guess it wasnt installed with the NVidia package.

My Device Manager is showing 1 unknown device now: SM Bus Controller, from what I have researched quickly, I think it is linked to the chipset.

In conclusion... everest is showing 2 graphics-y type components, The GeForce 6800 Ultra which I assume is the dedicated graphics card and the ATI Radeon 9200 which I assume is onboard to the chipset(?)

What do I need to do to fix it all!!!!

Thanks for spending the time to read and think about it...
