x86: Problem With Choosing a Terminal Type When Installing Solaris 10 1/06 Software (6350819)
When you use the Solaris interactive installation program, the Choose Terminal Type screen causes errors in the installation. The program immediately accepts the first character that you type and then proceeds with the installation. Consequently, you cannot choose an option that requires you to type more than one character. If you accidentally typed one character, which the installation program immediately accepts, the rest of the installation proceeds in error. No error message is displayed.

Workaround: Start the installation normally. At the screen that prompts you for the installation type, select the type before the timer expires in 30 seconds. Subsequent selection of the terminal type should work properly.

Adding Regions Fails With the localeadm Command (6350486)
The function to add regions in the localeadm command no longer works if you create a new configuration file. The Language CD is not detected when you add the following regions:

Southern Europe

North America

Northern Europe

The following error message is displayed:

Workaround: When you are prompted to create a new configuration file, select No. Instead, use the configuration file that was installed in the system.

Thanks for your prompt responses. Since I could not see what was displayed on my hyper-terminal, I had to powered the server off. I attached a Dell Monitor to the video port and can see there are two choices:

1. Boot to multiple user mode
2. Boot to safe mode

The multiple user mode would redirect the system configuration to serial port (my hyper terminal) and continuing with the unfinished configuration, i.e., the display was in messy Chinese codes. I can not do anything since I do not know what was displayed on the terminal. The server does not have DVD nor CD-ROM drive.

The safe mode will allow me to boot to the video port but I can not change anything.

The Solaris is pre-installed.  My questions are
1. How could I reset it so that it restart the system configuration, i.e., allowing me to choose terminal type and language?
2. How can I redirect all the output to video port and use the GUI interface to finish the system configuration?

boot in safe mode and when you get to the prompt, do sys-unconfig.

The sys-unconfig command is used to restore a system's  con-figuration to an "as-manufactured" state, ready to be recon-figured again.

I booted to the failsafe mode and ran sys-unconfig and rebooted server to normal mode. It still displays in the messy codes on my hyper terminal. It seems that the sys-unconfig did not remove the configuration info.

I think that the failsafe mode and the regular mode boots from different boot kernel. What I have removed is the configuration for the failsafe copy of configuration.

I think that the regular copy of boot volume is mounted to /a. How could I run sys-unconfig to againt that mount?

Update: I called Sun support and they sent an engineer to reset the jumpers or whatever. It did not do change anything except triggering more errors during rebooting process.

I tried to use eeprom to set console=text. It did not do chanage anything - the display was still redirected to hyper terminal with messy codes.

I finally figured out to get into CMOS and and set redirect to my video port. The display on the monitor is better except it is in foreign language - I think it is in Chinese code (not characters).  

Question comes to: how can I change the display language?
