Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. I am a low intermediate user and do not know how to purchase the minimum computer for my use. I am somewhat conused on what components do and which I need. It seems that I can buy a refurb for $300-600 but by the time I add what I think is needed it costs 600-1500. Please provide specs and model numbers and upgrades for a desktop that will satisfy my needs. I usually use the internet by broadband comcast cable ( 80% of time) for research on products and informatiion, purchases, email (15 %), skype, photos, stock brokerage trading, and some MS office documents (5%). No Gamming. No audio or videphile needs but it seems that it might be nice to have the computer to media wireless network setup for movies. I may do more video editing ( using Dazzle that I have, currently only available for PC, maybe one for Mac later), transfer for old VHS camcorder tapes to DVD) but I have a MacBook pro and Lacie 500GB external HD that I intend to use for newer camcorder video editing of mini-dv. My current pc is a DELL DIMENSION 8200 PURCHASED IN 2002. I overspecked it with modem, graphics and audio cards. The 512 RAM seems inadequate for multi-windows open. I am looking at the DELL I530, HP Pavilion a6560z series and the HP Pavilion a6560t series. Do I need a modem, graphics card, NIC, wireless router? How much RAM, Ghz processor, GB HD, CD/DVD?
