I tried to boot without the hdd, new hdd still same problem. I contacted Dell tech support, they told me to insert the windows xp and using command chkdsk /r. it still does not work. please help. Thank you

Browse All TopicsI have Dell Dimension 8300, It showing message: Previous attempts at booting this system have failed at checkpoint [hdsk], everytime I turn on. I tried reseat memory, video card, power cable, hdd cable, even booting without hdd, still same alert. Please help. Thank you very much.

Did you try Clearing the CMOS?
Unplug system from wall or turn Off switch on power supply if there is one.
Move CMOS jumper to Clear and press the power button 5/6 times or take out coin sized battery for 20/30 minutes. Still press power button.
Move jumper back to Normal or reinstall battery.
Plug back into wall or turn ON switch.
Thank you for both of you tried to help me. the unit has attend warranty, but it has alot of personal informations in there.
The only thing I don't understand, if the HDD failed, why it still problem with the new one. unit using SATA controller and I also replaced the cable. BIOS cleared. Last thing is motherboard. do you think?.

If it still give that error with ALL the drives unplugged, then I think yes, the motherboard is bad.
You might not have to send the whole computer in. They sent a customer of mine just a new motherboard because the onboard nic died on his It was an 8300 also.

Ran diagnostics HDD passed all. Thanks for both of you tried to help me. I believe motherboard failed, because Dell tech told me to look on the back of diagnostic Light and nothing light is on, intermittently power on/off.
