That was the info I needed man, Thank you very much, works great. Just a side question if you don't mind, can this be done if you didn't have a Sun keyboard? Without the "Stop" button?
Thanks,
Tom

Browse All TopicsI have a sun blade 100 I bought brand new about 5 yrs ago or so, I was going to try and learn the OS etc. well needless to say it was working when it was turned off and stored several years ago. I recently hooked it up and have no clue of the root pw (It has Sol 8 on it now) For some reason the screen flashes on and off every 3-5 seconds (never seen that before) it ask to hit ctrl-D then you can enter a run level (0-6) none work, the path or file is corupt. So I just want to install 10 on here but I have no clue, I burnt the CD's and have CD 1 in it will not boot off of the CD, I am sure there is a way to make it do this, what I did learn years ago I have forgotten and would like to get back into it and if I like it move up to a better/faster machine. Any help is greatly appreaciated. I am new to this service so if I put this post in the wrong place, no need to send me hate mail, I will move it or whatever I need to do :-)
Thanks Guys,
Tom

You should use a Sun keyboard for the Sun workstation, a PC keyboard might not work properly for the Sun workstation (at lease the OBP commands, eg, "<stop> A", "<stop> N", etc).
If you want to use Windows PC/Laptop as a serial console, please read:

Warming, if you change you console to the serial tty, your monitor attached to the graphic card in the Balde 100 will not be used, unless you remote login to the box and use "eeprom" to change it back. (It is not an easier task for a beginner to do trouble shootings)

Use a Windows PC to download the full set of Solris 10 (Sparc platform) from:
http://www.sun.com/so ftware/sol aris/get.j sp
unzip the CD image one by one and burn the imapge to CDs.
use the Solaris software CD 1 to start the installation.
If you don't need to keep the existing data from the HD, you can perform a fresh installation, use the following procedure:
1) power on the Sun Blade 100, as soon as you see something display on the screen, press "<Stop> A" (press the <Stop> key and the "A" key at the same time) to go to the OBP prompt.
2) put the first Solaris software CD into the CDROM, then type in:
boot cdrom <enter>
then follow the screen instruction to perform the fresh installtion.
