Question

How do I open this computer

Asked by: slingingshot15

Can someone explain to me why this optiplex refuses to open? Is it locked or could it be a little stuck...I am afraid I may break it if I pull it too hard. Look how easily I am able to pull the other one....This is in a school and I need to open the case.. I am the ICT Tech there.

Lay the computer on its side as shown in the illustration.

Locate the cover release latch shown in the illustration. Then, slide the release latch back as you lift the cover.

Grip the sides of the computer cover and pivot the cover up using the hinge tabs as leverage points.

Remove the cover from the hinge tabs and set it aside on a soft nonabrasive surface.

by: slingingshot15Posted on 2009-11-05 at 12:17:03ID: 25753468

hey man that is actually the wrong 745..if you look closely at the one in the video, the one i have is the one where the monitor sits on top of the cpu....the 745 comes in about 3 different styles....the one you showed is the normal standing desktop....mine is a lying desktop....

by: BitsBytesandMorePosted on 2009-11-05 at 12:23:12ID: 25753539

I know.... I did notice... It gave me the option the first time and later, when I noticed in the video, I didn't anymore and I do not want to clear the cache...... it's the same system of latch.......it's stuck.....have a glass of chocolate milk and pull hard...maybe push the cover down to unstick it....

by: slingingshot15Posted on 2009-11-05 at 12:25:44ID: 25753575

ok i guess i will try this tomorrow in school.....lol at glass of chocolate milk....by the way i cannot break the case by pulling it too hard and forcing it open right?

by: BitsBytesandMorePosted on 2009-11-05 at 12:27:24ID: 25753597

Ok .. .I cleared the cache.... which one do you have ... they only have 4 and none is the laying type.....

by: slingingshot15Posted on 2009-11-05 at 12:32:22ID: 25753665

if you look closely at the one that says desktop..that is the one....it is laid down....

by: BitsBytesandMorePosted on 2009-11-05 at 12:34:29ID: 25753687

Well .... although theoretically ... if anything is blocking the latch from sliding away from the case .... then yes..... you could break it. This said.....nothing should be blocking it from sliding.....maybe a cable connector inside the case it preventing the latch from slidding.... it think it's stuck..... but who knows... I checked all 4 manuals... they all have the same latch mechanism.....

by: slingingshot15Posted on 2009-11-05 at 12:36:42ID: 25753716
